International Women's Day 2021: SevenC3's Wonder Women

This year on International Women's Day, we asked some of our SevenC3 women to nominate their 'Wonder Woman'. Check out some of our faves below!

"Maya Angelou is my nomination. Although she passed away in 2014 her legacy is timeless. More than anyone else she inspires me to live a better life. She blends compassion, intelligence, insight, realism, practical advice and empathy in all her creative work. I could put up a new quote a day from her and still not cover her wisdom. If there was such a thing as a Goddess…it would be Maya."

Helena Lang, Head of Content

"With the theme this year being #choosetochallenge I nominate Africa Daley-Clarke of @thevitamindproject (Instagram and elsewhere). Through sharing a carefully curated, personal picture of how she and her family live (in a small flat with 3 young children), Africa focuses on different aspects of interiors, sustainable childrenswear, toys and books, as well as diversity and inclusion.

One aspect that has particularly struck me (as well as her amazing aesthetic, paired with the beautiful imagery that she creates with her chosen photographers) is the clear boundaries that Africa has set around creating content (especially when being approached by brands who are reluctant to pay fairly) – and empowering others to do the same.

Also, her strong voice as a woman of colour; her Instagram feed and Stories have introduced me to a great diversity of creators, and certainly challenged me to think far more deeply on matters of race and privilege."

On Integrity:

“Integrity is choosing courage over comfort; choosing what is right over what is fun, fast, or easy; and choosing to practice our values rather than simply professing them.”

– Brené Brown

Tivina Elliott-James, Picture Editor

"Mine is ….my daughter Molly. Brave, will give everything a go with  an endless pot of kindness. She isn’t afraid to speak her mind. For me it’s about remembering the girl warrior you were and being true to yourself through life. I’m trying to be more Molly."

Angela McCabe, People Director

"My ‘Wonder Woman’ is Dolly Parton.  She is a true inspiration for so many reasons.  Not only has she written some fabulous songs (she actually managed to write two of the most beloved songs the world has ever known in one day “Jolene” and “I will Always Love You” – how amazing is that?) but she’s a shrewd business woman (Dollywood – anyone been?) and a great philanthropist (her literary programme has donated over 100m books worldwide and she donated over $1m to fund research for a Covid vaccination - the list of her charity work is long). And then there’s 9-5….."
